The quality starts with thoughtful viticulture and low yields from a high percentage of old vines many planted in the 1960s and 1970s.

Tasting Notes

Bérêche et Fils’ Brut Réserve is the benchmark non-vintage cuvée from one of Champagne’s most respected grower-producers, combining remarkable depth with the tension, precision and mineral drive that define the house style.

This release, disgorged in June 2025, is centred on the 2022 vintage, supported by reserve wines from previous years and a significant contribution from the estate’s perpetual reserve. The blend brings together 35% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 30% Meunier, sourced across the Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne, including vineyards in Ludes, Trépail, Ormes and Mareuil-le-Port. The vines average around 40 years of age, contributing concentration and impressive texture.

Fermentation takes place naturally in barrel, followed by élevage in a combination of barrel and tank and approximately 36 months ageing on lees. The wine is disgorged by hand and finished with a low dosage of around 5 g/L, preserving freshness, tension and its distinctly chalky character.

The 2022-based release is generous yet beautifully controlled, opening with nectarine, ripe citrus and orange zest, alongside brioche and subtle spice. There is impressive density through the palate, balanced by vibrant acidity and a fine mineral backbone. The finish is long, saline and chalk-driven, giving the wine both immediate appeal and serious structure.

Recent refinements to the cuvée, including greater use of Chardonnay from Trépail and the exclusion of tailles, have brought even greater freshness and precision. The result is an outstanding introduction to Bérêche: a non-vintage Champagne with the complexity, energy and detail of a far more ambitious wine.

Critic Scores

A champagne of decadent abundance from great growers Vincent and Raphael Bérêche. Orange zest, apple strudel and its warm spices, some wild flowers and grilled nuts. It’s a champagne that leans into a more vinous style, rich and full through the mid-palate but still managing to seamlessly transition through to a fine, fresh and linear finish.

The NV Brut Réserve is the foundational wine at Bérêche, and the latest release is based on the 2022 vintage, incorporating a 40% perpetual reserve component, uniting the freshness of the northern slopes and the maturity of the hot, dry vintage. Bursting from the glass with aromas of nectarine, orange zest and brioche, it's medium- to full-bodied and ample, with considerable density, underpinned by racy acidity and concluding with a chalky finish. The Brut Réserve has seen the most refinements in recent years as it no longer incorporates tailles and now features Chardonnay from Trépail; technically, this means that the pH is lower and the acidity is higher. It’s one of the most reliable entry-level NV bottlings on the market.
