Chapelle St. Theodoric, founded in 2009 through partnership between Baptiste Grangeon (owner of Domaine de Cristia) and importer Peter Weygandt, established its name from a 1,000-year-old chapel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape village. The Le Grand Pin parcel features 100% old-vine Grenache (50–100 years) planted in sandy terroir, worked under strict biodynamic certification. The 2022 vintage proved the hottest and driest season since 1950, with only 300mm rainfall versus typical 600mm. Many vines entered 'security mode,' limiting growth to conserve water. Châteauneuf-du-Pape emerged as the strongest appellation, with old-vine Grenache's deep root systems providing access to subsoil moisture, yielding balanced wines rather than overripe character.

Le Grand Pin undergoes whole-bunch fermentation in concrete tanks, preserving aromatic freshness and allowing complex tannin development. The wine then ages in large French oak demi-muids (600-litre barrels) which impart subtler oak influence than standard barriques whilst allowing slow maturation. Concrete fermentation and demi-muids create textural elegance and mineral definition. The 2022 extreme conditions produced surprisingly balanced reds with moderate alcohol levels and just-ripe berry fruits, contrary to expectations for such drought stress.
