Often recognised as the Bordeaux version of Versailles, Chateau Beychevelle dates back to the 16th century where this magnificent estate was commissioned by Bishop François de Foix Candale and later became the property of the powerful Dukes of Epernon.
The chateau's name, Beychevelle, translates from the dialect of the times which was Baisse Voile, meaning lower the sails. It pays homage to the tradition of ships lowering their sails in respect as they sailed past the chateau and was inspiration of the label design.
