Tasting Notes

"An emblematic vintage of its decade, which stands out for its powerful aromas and wonderful freshness. The fresh fruit aromas of its youth, evoking fresh apricot, kumquat and rhubarb, are remarkably well-preserved. Riper notes of gingerbread and saffron then come to the fore, accentuating its orangey character and adding a great deal of liveliness. Candied notes of quince paste and apricot jam complete the picture. The wine starts out magnificent and surprisingly fresh on the palate, becoming rich, well-structured and incredibly elegant mid-palate. The finish is underpinned by a lovely bitterness, enhancing the persistence and balance of this exceptional vintage.

By immersing you in the universe of this great wine, we are offering a unique and memorable experience which perfectly reflects this timeless vintage. You will be taken on a guided tour of the estate, accompanied by five people of your choice, followed by a tasting of three vintages from the 21st century. We will be delighted to personalise your cherished wine case at your request." - Chateau D'Yquem

Critic Scores

Taking on a copper, orange hue, the incredible perfume with all its flowers, almonds, creme brulee, candied orange rind, apricot, overripe pineapple molasses and spice all coated with honey is a serious turn on. But it is on the palate, with its incredible match of concentration, sweetness, and blazing acidity that helps it all make sense. This is so good, it could run out of points on the best bottles, especially with more time. - Jeff Leve - Tasted Dec 2021

The 1975 Yquem has a medium amber color. The nose is a little shy to begin, soon opening out with amazingly youthful notes of lime cordial, blood orange, chamomile tea, and lemongrass, before giving way to wafts of acacia honey and toasted almonds. The elegantly styled, full-bodied palate delivers compelling tension, with vibrant citrus flavors and captivating floral sparks, finishing on a long, lingering marmalade note, with the slightest hint of that pleasant bitterness that comes with mature Sauternes. - Tasted May 2025

Tasted Sep 2023

Coming off a cool spring, 1975 was the first decent year after a run of poor vintages. Tasted several times now the latest reveals a wine that is really coming into its own. The picking began September 29 with what the team calls highly concentrated grapes. The flavour intensity is remarkable with honeyed peaches and pineapple notes. So exotic with candied orange rind flecks in the finish. Bravo and one you can wait on for another decade or two. Fine purity of flavour and balance. A real star. Bottled with 111 g/l of sugar with an acidity of 3.8 grams per litre and 14.1 degrees alcohol. Picking began in 29 September and proceeded with only three passes through the vineyard. - Tasted May 2008

Deep amber. Rich barley-sugar nose. With a strong suggestion of acidity on the nose. Great balance even if not one of the sweetest Yquems. Refreshing! Serve this with a savoury course? Really lively and charming. Richard Olney, in his monograph on Ch d'Yquem, said this was great and recalled 1937. Not thick or particularly sweet. - Tasted Nov 2022
