Tasting Notes

Château Guiraud Sauternes 2024 represents a pinnacle of winemaking artistry from one of Bordeaux’s most esteemed Premier Cru Classé estates. Founded in 1766 and recognized in the historic 1855 Classification, Château Guiraud has long been celebrated for producing richly expressive, balanced, and age-worthy sweet wines that set the benchmark for the Sauternes appellation.

This 2024 vintage continues the estate’s tradition of excellence, combining over 250 years of heritage with innovative, sustainable viticultural practices. As one of the first classified growths in Bordeaux to embrace organic farming, Château Guiraud crafts wines that boast intense aromatic complexity, fresh purity, and exceptional longevity. The unique microclimate of the Sauternes region encourages the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), a natural phenomenon that imparts luscious sweetness and intricate honeyed character to the grapes. This vintage showcases a harmonious blend of ripe tropical fruit, vibrant citrus layers, and delicate floral notes that evolve gracefully over time.

Meticulous vineyard management and expert winemaking ensure that each bottle of Château Guiraud Sauternes 2024 is a true reflection of the estate’s commitment to quality and sustainability. The result is an elegant sweet wine with a refined texture, balanced acidity, and remarkable ageing potential that will continue to develop nuances for decades.

Available as an exclusive En Primeur release, this offering provides early access to one of Bordeaux’s most coveted sweet wines well before bottling, with shipments expected to arrive in Australia by late 2028. This pre-release is a rare opportunity to secure a wine renowned for its depth, complexity, and prestige.

Critic Scores

Fresh aroma, green apple, smoky notes, quince, floral notes; juicy palate, very lively, great tension, concentrated yet weightless; very well balanced, with a creamy texture and a juicy-fresh finish. (Drink from 2030 to 2070) - 95 to 97 Points -Adrian Van Velsen

Sweet and luscious, a lovely lick of pineapple and mango straight away – ripe, sweet, but also salty the two giving a nice interplay between power and concentration and brightness and energy. Grippy and fun with an approachable element as well as being signature Sauternes from a great vintage. Sweet candied lemons, pineapple chunks and wet stones. Yummy. - Georgina Hindle

Attractive balance and bite, with steel, citrus, preserved lemons, patisserie, grated ginger, baked pineapple, plenty of lift, successfully walks the line of opulence and biting acidities that are so needed in such a concentrated vintage. Great stuff from ex-Yquem director Sandrine Garbay. - Jane Anson

Elegant and balanced, with quince, pastry and spice aromas. Medium-bodied with a silky texture. Refined and charming, with controlled sweetness and a succulent spice note bringing vitality toward the finish. - 94 to 95 Points - James Suckling
