Tasting Notes

The aromas on the nose are full of white flowers, ripe peaches, and lemon zest. On the palate the wine shows a brilliant dance between sweetness and acidity, which makes it incredibly lively. A smoky mineral character comes along with ripe yellow stone fruits, peach blossoms, and a juicy finish which is intense and elegant.

Critic Scores

Terrific herbal freshness is married to wonderfully succulent white tree fruit on the juicy, lightbodied palate. I love the orange blossom and Amalfi lemon aromas. The hint of grape sweetness is already beautifully integrated. Very silky finish that pulls you back for more.

Vineyard Cultivation

Clemens Busch is a benchmark biodynamic estate in Punderich, on the terraced left bank of the Mosel. The family's holdings centre on the steep Marienburg, a single grand slope whose blue, red and grey Devonian slate parcels give distinct expressions of the same hillside. Vines are old and often ungrafted, farmed organically and biodynamically without herbicides or synthetic treatments, with a strong emphasis on soil life and hand work on the near-vertical terraces. The Kabinett is drawn from these steep Marienburg blocks, picked at classic ripeness for a light, delicately sweet style. The 2023 season on the Mosel was warm but retained good acidity, giving fruit with both ripeness and freshness for this lower-alcohol, filigree Riesling.

Vinification

Fruit for the Kabinett is hand-harvested from the steep Marienburg terraces and gently pressed, with juice settled before a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation. In keeping with the estate's approach, fermentation relies on ambient yeasts and is halted with a little natural grape sweetness retained, giving the low alcohol (around 12.5% is high for a true Kabinett, so residual sugar and picking are balanced for the light style). Ageing is on fine lees in traditional Mosel vessels to build texture without overt oak influence, preserving the wine's transparency to site. The result is a silky, lightly sweet Riesling with orange blossom and Amalfi lemon lift, succulent white tree fruit and a long, saline-mineral finish.
