Critic Scores

A gentle hue segues to notes of crab apple and crushed strawberry. Generous and expansive, with ample fruit and extract, befitting the upfront style with generous aplomb. A toasty mid-palate is lathered in cream, making the wine even more becoming and salubrious of feel. A real fruity crowd pleaser. Rose seems to be a strong point at this address and this in no exception.

Vineyard Cultivation

Clover Hill's Tasmania Rose comes from the estate's Pipers River vineyards at Lebrina in northern Tasmania, established in 1986 and now farmed for more than 40 years. The maritime, cool-climate setting, with red basalt and clay soils and a long slow growing season, produces the delicate red fruit and bright acidity that suit a sparkling rose. Pinot Noir provides the colour and red-fruited character, blended with Chardonnay in the estate's classic sparkling proportions. As a multi-vintage wine it is composed from selected parcels and reserve material rather than a single year, following Clover Hill's philosophy of blending across seasons for a consistent, elegant house style.

Vinification

Fruit is harvested early to retain acidity and gently pressed, with the rose taking its pale blush either from short skin contact or the addition of still red wine before bottling. The wine is made by methode traditionnelle, with the second fermentation in bottle followed by maturation on lees to give a fine texture and subtle biscuity complexity. Reserve wines held under the estate's multi-vintage regime add depth and consistency to the blend. After riddling and disgorgement the wine is finished with a measured dosage, producing a dry, red-fruited sparkling rose with a fine mousse and a crisp, savoury finish.
