Decades is a small, ambitious Tasmanian Pinot Noir project drawing fruit from a single site at Tea Tree in the Coal River Valley, a warm, dry, cool-climate district in the state's south-east. The vineyard is planted on black cracking clay over calcareous Triassic sandstone, a distinctive geology that lends the wine its unmistakable blue- and dark-fruited character and mineral drive. Farming is meticulous and vineyard-first, with low yields the priority. The 2024 season delivered fruit of real presence and structure, and with only around 350 cartons made the wine reflects a hand-tended, small-batch approach aimed at purity, perfume and finesse rather than volume.

Hand-picked fruit was fermented with a considered use of whole bunches to build spice, florals and tannin architecture, using indigenous yeasts in small open fermenters with gentle hand-plunging. After pressing, the wine went to French oak, a restrained proportion new, and completed malolactic fermentation in barrel, resting on lees for texture and slow integration. The élevage aimed to preserve the site's bright, minerally cadence and silty, powdery tannins while allowing amaro-herb, sandalwood and dark-cherry complexity to build. The result is a supple, spiced and long wine built for the cellar, finishing complex and enduring.
