Critic Scores

As readers are already quite aware, I have been a fan of this supremely elegant Gevrey villages bottling for many, many years, but the 2012 is extra special! The excellent nose shows off the purity and sappiness of this vintage to fine effect, wafting from the glass in a beautifully perfumed blend of red and black cherries, red plums, cocoa, a beautiful base of dark, Gevrey soil tones, woodsmoke and rose petals. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very sappy this year, with striking transparency, fine-grained tannins and outstanding focus and grip on the very soil-driven finish. This is beautifully elegant and has more mid-palate stuffing that customary- a very good combination I might add! (Drink between 2017-2035)

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin is soft, silky and delicate on the palate. Sweet red berries, mint and floral notes meld together nicely in the glass. Today the 2012 is solid, if not quite the overachiever it can be.

An elegant and pure nose features aromas of various wild red berries and plenty of earth and sauvage character. A restrained and cool mouth feel characterizes the lightly mineral and saline-inflected middle weight flavors that possess both good balance and delineation on the lingering finish. This will be approachable young if desired.

Always the first to be picked because it's at the bottom of the slope. Lots of sweet fruit at first and very gentle. These wines are like a warm embrace with a lick of strawberry jam. Eric Rousseau doesn't expect this to firm up that much because the tannins aren't at all marked. Lovely stuff. 17/20
