Tasting Notes

The wine offers tremendous finesse, perfume and texture. Fermented with 100% whole bunches, this is a wine that serves to remind us why the vines of Échezeaux (and Flagey in general) have so often been grouped with those of Vosne. Raised partly in Stockinger barrel, most wines from this commune could not lay a glove on this.. Established in 1858, Arnoux-Lachaux is a family affair. Pascal Lachaux (son-in-law of the late Robert Arnoux) is the fifth generation making wine at this Domaine, which has significant grand Cru holdings. he is now working in the winery with his son Charles who has joined him after working in wine regions in New Zealand, South Africa and Oregon.

Critic Scores

Lachaux lost half of his crop in this vineyard to frost, but the 2016 Echezeaux Grand Cru is superb, offering up a deep bouquet of wild berries, orange rind and mossy soil. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and expansive, with a firm, tight-knit core, excellent concentration and a rich chassis of structuring tannin, underpinned by vibrant acids. This will need and reward time, but it's one of the finest renditions of this site to date from Charles Lachaux.
