Léa and Pierre Lafon are now leading the iconic domaine, with Dominique Lafon still offering guidance. This vintage marks a confident and seamless generational handover.

This vintage shows remarkable clarity and balance, with reds in particular reaching a level not seen from the domaine in years. Ripe, expressive, and unmistakably terroir-driven.

A warm, dry season with no disease pressure and smart early picking led to clean, ripe fruit and generous yields, resulting in reds and whites of poise, depth, and energy.

Tasting Notes

Domaine Comtes Lafon is world-renowned for its iconic Meursault whites, but its red Burgundies offer exceptional elegance, value, and terroir clarity. Sourced from a premier vineyard bordering Auxey-Duresses and farmed organically and biodynamically, the Monthélie 1er Cru ‘Les Duresses’ demonstrates the domaine’s masterful handling of Pinot Noir. The vineyard's cool, limestone-rich soils impart a striking balance of vivid red fruit, subtle spice, and a taut, mineral-driven backbone.

In the 2023 vintage, now expertly guided by the next generation, Léa and Pierre Lafon, the wine delivers an enticing blend of youthful generosity and refined structure. Bright aromas of red plum, wild raspberry, and violet open up to a medium-bodied, racy palate accented by hints of woodsmoke and savory earth. While remarkably approachably and vibrant in its youth, its fine-grained tannins and core acidity will allow it to evolve gracefully in the cellar through 2035+.

Critic Scores

This is very aromatically pretty, even perfumed, with its array of ripe red and dark fruit aromas that are cut with spice wisps. There is both excellent
energy and detail to the lightly stony middle weight flavors that conclude in a balanced and youthfully austere finale. Lovely and understated.
