Tasting Notes

Domaine Dujac Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2011 exemplifies the exceptional quality and refined elegance that has defined this esteemed Burgundy estate since its founding in 1968. Sourced from Dujac’s carefully selected parcels within the prestigious Bonnes-Mares vineyard, this Grand Cru wine showcases the unique interplay of red and white soils, contributing to its powerful yet graceful character.

Renowned for its meticulous craftsmanship, the 2011 vintage benefits from whole-bunch fermentation and a judicious aging process in carefully chosen oak barrels. This approach tempers the wine’s natural structure, resulting in a harmonious balance between intensity and accessibility. The wine’s layered complexity and firm tannins promise excellent longevity, making it a prized addition for collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Critically acclaimed, the Domaine Dujac Bonnes-Mares 2011 earned an outstanding 96 points from Vinous, underscoring its status as one of the top expressions of this Grand Cru vineyard. The vintage itself is noted for its favorable growing conditions in Burgundy, producing wines with vibrant acidity and ripe fruit concentration, which are hallmarks of this exceptional year.

This wine offers a captivating bouquet of dark cherry, blackberry, and subtle spice, intertwined with earthy undertones and hints of forest floor. On the palate, it reveals a refined texture with layers of red fruit, mineral complexity, and a persistent finish that lingers gracefully.

Perfectly embodying the heritage and innovation of Domaine Dujac, this Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2011 is a remarkable testament to Burgundy’s prestigious terroir and winemaking excellence. It represents a unique opportunity to experience a wine of both immediate appeal and long-term aging potential.

Critic Scores

The 2011 Bonnes-Mares is dark, powerful and racy. Some of the typical Bonnes-Mares structure is tempered in this vintage, making the wine a little more accessible than it usually is. Menthol, licorice, dried herbs, smoke and dark stone fruits blossom in a dark, virile Burgundy that should provide thrilling drinking for the next 30 years or so. Although I don't think the 2011 will take as long as most vintages to blossom, it will need at least a decade to start to open up. A recent bottle of the 1993 was stratospheric and showed no signs whatsoever of fading.

This is highly expressive, indeed unusually so for very young Bonnes Mares, and offers up nothing short of a kaleidoscopic array of scents that include a wide range of floral, earth, stone and mostly red berry fruit aromas. There is fine if not special density and focused power to the big-bodied flavors that are overtly powerful and quite muscular yet there is no trace of rusticity or absence of refinement to the hugely long finish. This is a succulent yet formidable Bonnes Mares that should amply reward those who have the (considerable) patience to wait for its full maturity.

Bright red. Complex, high-pitched aroma of red fruits, flowers and mocha, plus a touch of white pepper. Lovely floral lift to the intense, sharply delineated flavors of red raspberry and spices. Youthfully tight today but the very long, vibrant finish displays captivating rising perfume. This should unfold slowly over the next decade.

The 2011 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a vivacious, ripe, blackberry and blueberry- scented bouquet with impressive delineation and mineralite. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening, exhibiting superior concentration and suppleness compared to the Clos Saint Denis or Clos de la Roche and seems to revel in the vintage better. It does not quite have the length of a tiptop Bonnes-Mares, but it should age well in the context of the vintage. Drink 2015-2025.
