Critic Scores

After fermenting as whole clusters and ageing in 70% new casks, the wine has an exotic perfume, with a pronounced pomegranate and black cherry fruit, hints of anise, liquorice, mineral and a savoury, smoky edge. It is tannic and firm, dense with extract, and very long on the finish. Superb. Dujac now farms more than a half-hectare of Bonnes-Mares, including the historical parcels of the domaine on the terres rouges (red clay) soils at the bottom of the slope, as well as the terres blanches acquired further upslope due to the Moillard transaction. (Charles Curtis MW)

The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is performing every bit as well in bottle as it promised to in barrel. Exhibiting a deep bouquet of dark berries, orange zest, rose petal, coniferous forest floor and spices, it's full-bodied, pure and perfumed, its velvety attack segueing into a deep, layered mid-palate of striking energy and intensity of flavor. This is often my favorite wine in the Dujac cellar, though it invariably takes the better part of two decades to attain a semblance of maturity, and the 2020 is a benchmark rendition. (William Kelley)

Rich dark purple. Quite a closed nose but seems fresher than the Malconsorts. Really intense deep dark purple, very pure dark raspberry and plum fruit, no ugly tannins at all. Another grand wine for the really long term. 83% whole bunch vinification. Drink from 2035-2050. 5-Star Wine

A surprisingly open and expressive nose freely reveals its aromas of wild red berries, anise, clove, rose petal and crushed herb. The intense, serious, muscular and precise big-bodied flavors deliver equally good persistence and even better complexity on the hugely long, balanced, markedly austere built-to-age finish. This isn't the most concentrated Bonnes Mares that the domaine has ever made but it is nonetheless a most impressive effort that should enjoy an exceptionally long aging curve.

The 2020 Bonnes-Mares has an expressive bouquet with red berry fruit, white pepper and light floral scents. The palate is well balanced with fine-grain tannins, quite sinewy, grippy and dense. I can imagine this being stoic and "grumpy" in its youth and therefore constitutes one of Dujac's most cellar-worthy wines. Patience in abundance required. (NM)
