Tasting Notes

Domaine Dujac Echezeaux Grand Cru 2020 exemplifies the refined artistry and meticulous craftsmanship of a family-run estate established in 1968. Nestled in one of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations, this Grand Cru vineyard benefits from a unique north-south orientation within the Echezeaux block, allowing the wine to maintain remarkable elegance even in warmer vintages like 2020.

This exceptional vintage has been awarded 97 points by Jasper Morris MW, a testament to its outstanding quality and aging potential. The wine is crafted using whole-bunch fermentation, a technique that enhances complexity and structure, while careful oak maturation imparts subtle layers of spice and depth without overpowering the delicate fruit character.

The resulting profile is detailed and saline, showcasing a harmonious balance between vibrant acidity and refined tannins. The palate reveals expressive notes of ripe red berries, earthy undertones, and a mineral-driven finish that speaks to the terroir’s distinctiveness. This Echezeaux Grand Cru is designed for long-term cellaring, promising to evolve gracefully over the years.

Produced in the heart of Burgundy, a region renowned for its ability to produce some of the world’s most coveted Pinot Noir wines, this 2020 vintage reflects both the climatic challenges and triumphs of a warmer growing season. The Domaine Dujac estate’s commitment to traditional winemaking methods combined with modern precision results in a wine that is both powerful and elegant.

Perfectly suited for collectors and connoisseurs seeking a premium Burgundy with provenance and pedigree, the Domaine Dujac Echezeaux Grand Cru 2020 stands as a remarkable expression of terroir, tradition, and vintage excellence.

Critic Scores

One block runs north-south which is a boon in hotter conditions. Fine glowing purple, elegance and concentration on the nose, more in red fruits rather than the riper characters, saline notes behind, this has retained its latticework detail which is for me a classic signature of Echezeaux. Drink from 2030-2045. Tasted Dec 2021.

Bright notes of raspberry and redcurrant. The texture is silky and dense but there is no lack of freshness here. The overall impact is one of velvety complexity and a generosity that lingers on the palate. From 0.68ha in Champs Traversin; the grapes were picked early to control alcohol and maintain acidity, and it seems to have worked (13.5%). Drinking Window 2025 - 2060. (Charles Curtis MW)

Aromas of orange rind, rose petals, plums, exotic spices, raw cocoa and sweet wild berries preface the 2020 Echezeaux Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, layered and expansive wine built around lively acids and melting tannins. This, too, is rather elegant and fine-boned this year. (William Kelley)

The 2020 Echezeaux Grand Cru has an endearing bouquet with predominantly red fruit, white pepper, a light ash-like bouquet that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, very saline, a little herbaceous with a stronly marine-influence towards the finish. I find the Beaux Monts has more finesse than this cuvee. (NM)

Intensely floral notes of rose petal, lavender, violet and acacia add both elegance and breadth to the dark cherry and wonderfully spicy aromas. The rich, dense and highly seductive medium weight plus flavors possess a dusty, mouth coating impressively complex finish that delivers outstanding length. This is also going to require at least some patience but should mature into a seriously good Ech.
