Tasting Notes

Domaine Dujac Echezeaux Grand Cru 2021 is a remarkable expression of Burgundy’s revered terroir, showcasing the finesse and elegance that define this prestigious vineyard. Crafted with 65.9% whole-cluster fermentation, this vintage reveals a stunning floral purity paired with an exceptionally precise structure, embodying the meticulous craftsmanship of Domaine Dujac.

This Grand Cru wine undergoes high stem inclusion and is fermented with native yeasts, techniques that enhance complexity and preserve the natural vibrancy of the fruit. The extended oak aging further contributes to its remarkable length and delicate texture, highlighting a balance between power and refinement.

Critically acclaimed, the 2021 Echezeaux received an impressive 96 points from Jasper Morris MW, a testament to its outstanding quality and aging potential. The vintage benefits from favorable growing conditions in Burgundy, allowing for optimal ripeness and concentration while maintaining freshness and elegance.

On the nose, expect an intricate bouquet of red and dark berries, subtle floral notes, and hints of earth and spice. The palate is finely tuned with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that carries through a long, graceful finish. This wine perfectly exemplifies the harmonious interplay between tradition and innovation that Domaine Dujac is celebrated for.

Ideal for collectors and connoisseurs seeking a sophisticated Burgundy Grand Cru, the Domaine Dujac Echezeaux 2021 promises an exceptional tasting experience marked by purity, structure, and finesse.

Critic Scores

65.9% whole cluster. A medium to dark purple. The bouquet is very pure, no reduction here, perhaps a touch floral, then a sweeter ripe fruit through the middle of the palate, dark raspberry, before some pinpoint delicacy of structure at the back. The stems are incidental here. Very long finish. Five barrels made of this excellent 2021. Drink from 2028-2035.

Gracious on the fruit-forward nose, this smells of red cherries and field strawberries with some light whole cluster spice and smoky oak. It is a giving, distinguished Echezeaux with refined tannins, integrated oak and age-worthy structure. The thirst-quenching freshness on the finish easily carries along the palate's largesse. These vines are planted north-south in the Champs Traversins sector.

Domaine Dujac’s 2021 Echezeaux is really a beautiful example of the vintage this year and the wine was really singing at the time of our tasting. The wine’s aromatic constellation delivers scents of raspberries, cherries, red plums, duck, Vosne spices, a fine base of dark soil tones, bonfire, vanillin oak and a nice touch of stems in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, complex and revels in its fine mid-palate depth, with lovely transparency and grip, ripe tannins and impeccable balance on the long and complex finish. Fine, fine juice. 2035-2100.

Note: from a .69 ha holding in Champs Traversin Though the nose is once again reduced, it does not extend to the more elegant if less concentrated medium weight flavors that deliver outstanding persistence if only average depth on the youthfully austere and well-balanced finale. Like several wines in the range which could use better depth, the Dujac Ech typically develops beautifully in bottle. As such, my predicted range implicitly offers the same confidence that the 2021 version will do so if given time.

Aromas of rose petals, dark berries, blood orange and exotic spices introduce the 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and sumptuous wine that's supple and melting, with an extrovert, almost extravagantly perfumed profile, concluding with a broad, saline finish.
