Tasting Notes

Brothers David and Nicolas Rossignol run this 100% Organic and Biodynamically farmed Domaine located in the very heart of Gevrey Chambertin. Very early to the Sustainable farming movement, all the family's vineyards, located in some of the most impressive vineyards in Burgundy, were converted to Certified Organic in 2004.

The Rossignols are one of the biggest producers of Chambertin with 1.6 hectares of vines in the central section of this magnificent grand cru. A fabulous, complete wine combining beautiful pure fruit, silky tannins and a long, lingering finish. Drink 2029-2038.

Critic Scores

Not really any deeper in colour, an elegant ruby. Perfumed, stylish, very understated to begin with, then grows beautifully, super elegant, a refined and stylish Chambertin which captures the beauty of this terroir without exaggeration. A little oak to finish. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024.

Rossignol-Trapet’s magnificent Chambertin 2023 is initially a bit hard to read, with aromas that are a bit reticent on the initial attack, and a monolithic texture. With time, however, one can coax an intuition of greatness here. There is enormous ripe plummy fruit with a savoury, gamey edge and hints of mineral and ground coffee. The texture is tightly wound with extract and muscular tannins that draw it out to an immensely long finish. It is wonderful wine; I would not open it for 10 years, but it will easily drink for the next 50 after that.
