Critic Scores

The 2007 Cote Rotie La Turque’s inky/blue/purple color is followed by aromas of asphalt, charcoal, graphite, barbecue smoke, roasted meats/aged beef, blackberries, cassis and violets. With huge body, massive concentration, silky tannins, sweet glycerin and a layered, multidimensional mouthfeel, it can be drunk now or cellared for 25 years.

Very distinctive, with ganache and espresso aromas and well-structured layers of blackberry, mulled plum, roasted spice, anise and charred apple wood. This has ample grip, but stays polished and integrated, allowing for an almost caressing mouthfeel despite its obvious density. One of the most concentrated wines in the vintage.

Vinification & Cultivation

Vineyard Cultivation

La Turque occupies Côte-Rôtie's most distinctive terroir: steep slopes with micaceous schist soils that impart remarkable perfume and elegance. The 2007 vintage saw moderate rainfall and warm temperatures allowing optimal phenolic ripeness without excess alcohol. E. Guigal's meticulous management of this demanding vineyard—selective harvesting, canopy adjustment for balance—ensures Syrah of precision and aromatic complexity. La Turque's terroir naturally delivers wines with more apparent floral and spice characteristics than sibling cuvées, a result of soil mineralogy and unique microclimate. Vine age and site-specific management captured the vintage's elegance.

Vinification

La Turque grapes underwent full destemming, with fermentation conducted in temperature-controlled vats using indigenous yeasts. Guigal employed partial whole-bunch fermentation to enhance aromatic complexity and silky texture. Extended skin contact extracted tannins and colour. Post-fermentation malolactic conversion proceeded naturally. The wine then entered 42 months of French oak ageing, a critical period for integrating phenolics and developing characteristic aromatic profile. Frequent racking and careful oxygen management define this élevage, allowing gradual complexity development and aromatic expression throughout maturation. The wine evolves steadily in barrel.
