Tasting Notes

Clear, with yellow hues. On the nose you’ll find ripe varietal fruit flavours of ripe pear, white florals and citrus with green leaf and spice. A beautifully lifted and expressive wine with mouth-filling flavours that finish crisp and fresh. A wonderful all-rounder with it’s lighter alcohol becomes a brilliant luncheon wine to partner many fresh cuisines.

Vineyard Cultivation

Elephant in the Room is a brand within the portfolio of Fourth Wave Wine, an Australian producer and distributor known for accessible, contemporary labels. This mid-strength Pinot Gris sits in a range built around lower-alcohol drinking without sacrificing flavour or scale. Fruit is drawn from South Australian vineyards, where warm days and cooler nights help the variety hold its natural acidity and develop the pear and citrus characters typical of Gris. As a non-vintage or multi-parcel release, the emphasis is on a consistent house style rather than a single site. Farming and picking decisions favour early harvest, capturing fresh aromatics and moderate sugar levels so the finished wine lands at around 6.5% alcohol while retaining varietal expression.

Vinification

Grapes are picked earlier than usual and at lower baume to keep potential alcohol modest, then gently pressed to preserve delicate aromatics. Fermentation is carried out cool in stainless steel to protect the fresh pear, white floral and citrus notes and to retain a gentle line of acidity. The mid-strength style is achieved through picking and fermentation management rather than heavy technical intervention, giving a wine that finishes crisp and dry with a light body. There is no obvious oak influence; the aim is a clean, fruit-driven, everyday white. Exact fermentation temperatures, yeast selection and any alcohol-adjustment method are not published and would need confirmation from the producer.

About this Wine

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
