Tasting Notes

Domaine Pascal Cotat Sancerre 'Les Monts Damnes' 2022 is a masterpiece of Sauvignon Blanc craftsmanship, showcasing the exceptional terroir of Chavignol. Crafted from two revered single vineyards, the Grande Côte and the Monts Damnés, this wine benefits from vines over 40 years old, which impart remarkable depth and complexity.

Renowned for producing some of the longest ageing Sauvignon Blancs in the world, Pascal Cotat delivers a wine that perfectly balances vibrant acidity with rich, mineral-driven character. The 2022 vintage reflects the unique chalky soils and cool climate of the Sancerre region, resulting in a bright, clean wine with intense aromas of citrus, green apple, and subtle flinty notes.

Critically acclaimed by Robert Parker, who describes these wines as “some of the finest Sauvignon Blancs I have ever put to my lips,” this bottle exemplifies elegance and finesse. The 2022 Les Monts Damnes offers a sophisticated palate with layers of fresh acidity, complex minerality, and a long, persistent finish.

This Sancerre stands as a benchmark for premium Sauvignon Blanc, ideal for those seeking a refined white wine with excellent ageing potential and expressive character. Whether paired with seafood, goat cheese, or enjoyed on its own, Domaine Pascal Cotat’s 'Les Monts Damnes' 2022 is a distinguished representation of Loire Valley viticulture at its finest.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

Les Monts Damnes represents the domaine's flagship terroir within Sancerre, planted on clay-limestone soils atop ancient limestone bedrock. This south-facing vineyard commands a reputation for mineral intensity and aromatic complexity, its slopes ensuring natural drainage and concentrated ripening. The 2015 biodynamic conversion of the full estate enhanced soil biology and root penetration, deepening terroir expression. The 2022 growing season, though cool and wet, benefited from the elevated mineral extraction of established vines rooted deeply in limestone bedrock, producing a vintage with exceptional focus and linearity despite challenging conditions.

Vinification

Fruit from Les Monts Damnes undergoes strict manual selection and whole-bunch pressing, with fermentation initiated in neutral barrels using ambient yeasts. Temperature control is minimal; natural fermentation typically spans 6–8 weeks, building complexity through slow conversion. Extended lees aging on fine lees with gentle bâtonnage through winter integrates minerals and texture. The wine remains unfiltered and unfiltered, bottled in late spring to preserve freshness and allow natural clarity to develop post-bottling.
