Critic Scores

The nose is complex, mineral and elegant with aromas of lemon rind, candied lime zest, apple blossom, slate, grapefruit and Asian pear. The palate is tightly wound with a real generosity giving a medium-bodied mouthfeel underneath the racy acidity and long lasting notes of green apple, mandarin zest, sea salt and nectarine. Nicely crafted with a years ahead in bottle. Excellent. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Rarely does such a youthful Riesling come to the glass with this high level of class and complexity. A lovely melding of the aromatic, the citrus and the apple fruited is here together with a charming spiciness and mouth-wateringly bright acidity. Crab apple, red Delicious apple, lime zest, lemon, citrus, spice, white pepper and ginger mix and play with a lovely delicate fragrance of jasmine. Acidity is always an integral part of Isolation Ridge Riesling, bringing both tension and a filigree fine basis for a palate that shines in 2024 with a little more spice, a little more piquancy than usual, and a seemingly less obvious touch of savouriness. It’s a beautiful wine, unforced, naturally in balance, fragrant, enticing and long in flavour. History dictates it will age a treat, but then one taste now also tells you it is ready to go . . . your choice.

Vinification & Cultivation

Vineyard Cultivation

Frankland Estate's Isolation Ridge Riesling is made entirely from Riesling grown on the estate's namesake vineyard in the Frankland River subregion of Western Australia's Great Southern. Two Riesling clones were planted in 1988 on undulating northern and eastern-facing slopes at around 256 metres elevation, on duplex soils of ironstone gravel over a clay subsoil, and farmed organically. The cool nights and long, slow ripening typical of Frankland River allow full flavour development while preserving the vibrant, racy acidity for which the region's Rieslings are known. The 2024 vintage yielded fruit of notable class and complexity, with a touch more spice and piquancy than usual.

Vinification

Fruit was pressed and fermented cool in stainless steel to protect its aromatics and produce a dry, tightly wound Riesling in the estate's signature style. Fermentation to dryness preserves the crystalline citrus, apple and slate character and the filigree acid line that is integral to Isolation Ridge, with no oak influence on the finished wine. The result is a mineral, elegant Riesling with lemon rind, candied lime zest, apple blossom, grapefruit and Asian pear over a medium-bodied, racy palate built to age. It was rated 97 points and named among Australia's Top 100 Wines for 2025.
