Critic Scores

An opulent crimson purple. Explodes from the glass with its aromas of ripe cherries, raspberry coulis, lavender and spice. It's just so brightly fruited and juicy on the palate, too. Balanced acidity and tannins complete a superb and well-priced Yarra pinot to drink now and over the next three to four years. As good a Giant Steps entry point as I have tasted. - Philip Rich

Vineyard Cultivation

Giant Steps was founded in the Yarra Valley by Phil Sexton in 1997 and, now under Jackson Family Wines, ranks among the most admired producers in Australia. The Yarra Valley Pinot Noir is its regional cuvee, built from 100% hand-picked estate and grower fruit sourced across the Yarra Valley, with a significant share from the cooler, higher Upper Yarra ranges on red and grey soils. Farming follows an organic, minimal-input philosophy. The 2025 season delivered ripe, juicy, brightly fruited Pinot Noir with balanced acidity, producing a fragrant, forward wine described by reviewers as an exceptionally good and well-priced entry point to the range.

Vinification

The wine was made from 100% hand-picked fruit using wild ferments and gravity-flow winemaking, with a portion of whole bunches for spice and perfume in the house style. Fermentation ran in open vessels with gentle cap work, followed by maceration and pressing to French oak for maturation of around ten months under restrained new-oak use. Malolactic fermentation completed in barrel and the wine was bottled with minimal fining and filtration, giving a vibrant, juicy, balanced Pinot Noir intended for drinking now and over the following three to four years.
