Tasting Notes

A Polish Hill for the ages – wonderfully aromatic and intensely fragrant, this 2026 vintage delivers full-throttle power while maintaining the vineyard’s signature finesse. Pure lime juice intensity tingles and electrifies the mid-palate, supported by characteristic slate-driven minerality and bone-dry structure. The wine’s impressive length reveals layers of citrus complexity with that signature lingering finish Polish Hill devotees treasure. This is a white wine that delights in its youth – fresh, bright, and immediately captivating – yet possesses the mineral backbone to age gracefully for decades. The marriage of immediate pleasure and long-term potential makes this vintage particularly special, representing one of the finest expressions from this legendary Clare Valley vineyard.

Critic Scores

This is a fantastic expression of Polish Hill. It's very, very minerally, almost an alpine-river kind of feel, with wet slate, some aniseed, dashes of lime rind, pleasingly bitter green apple notes, wet fern and succulent pink grapefruit and talc through the finish. The perfume is a quiet cavalcade of jasmine florals, citrus fruit and alpine herbs. So sleek, trim and superiorly long and fine boned. It's got intensity and energy to burn. And it's so very thirst-quenching and refreshing.

Pink grapefruit, fresh lime, aniseed, thyme and assorted herbs, with something of a violet and lavender perfume. This is very stony and strict, a little grainy grip, light but intense with lime zest and perfume on a tight quinine-laced finish of excellent length. A classic vintage for this wine. Cool but perfectly formed.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

The 2025 Polish Hill Riesling reflects the same single-vineyard source as earlier vintages—the distinctive slate-rich block in Clare Valley that defines the vineyard's distinctive terroir and character. Mature vines on steep, challenging slopes concentrate fruit quality and natural acidity. The 2025 vintage experienced a warm, dry growing season with moderate spring rainfall ensuring adequate water availability. Excellent phenolic ripeness developed across the region, and cool night temperatures preserved natural acidity and aromatic freshness. The vineyard's altitude and nocturnal cooling preserved the freshness and aromatic complexity that define Polish Hill's terroir expression.

Vinification

Grapes were carefully hand-harvested and gently pressed to capture delicate aromatics and fresh fruit character without extracting harsh tannins from skins. Cool fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel preserved the volatile compounds responsible for Polish Hill's signature mineral and stone-fruit profile. Extended lees contact following fermentation added textural complexity and enhanced ageing potential throughout the wine's development. Minimal intervention during vinification allows terroir expression to dominate, showcasing the vineyard's slate-influenced minerality and freshness. Post-harvest handling prioritised preservation of aromatic character and acidity.

About this Wine

Grosset

Established in 1981, Grosset Wines is independently owned and dedicated to allowing purity of fruit and region to take centre stage. “We aim to produce the best examples of variety and place. This is self-explanatory really… Riesling from the Clare Valley, expressing the dramatic differences between soft rock and hard rock sites and then differences within those broad categories; uniquely sited Semillon and Fiano, Cabernet from the coolest site in the region and of course, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from an even cooler sub-region of the Adelaide Hills,” explains owner and founder, Jeffrey Grosset.

“Purity of fruit and optimum ripeness are crucial to us, and we are not afraid to use different wine making approaches to bring the best out of each vineyard. Each is a testament to this philosophy.”

Clare Valley

Situated in the Mid North of South Australia, approximately 120 km north of Adelaide is one of Australia's oldest wine regions the Clare Valley. The area is broken up into three sub-regions, the Polish Hill River region to the east, the Central Clare Valley, and the Skillogalee Valley to the west.

Often associated with some of Australia's finest Riesling the cool climate and differing terroirs have paved the way for exciting and diverse wines over a plethora of varietals resulting in wines of pure expression and great length. Home to some of Australia's most iconic wineries - cult producers like Wendouree, to Australian icons such as Kilikanoon and boutique producers like Atlas, the Clare Valley is definitely an area to keep an eye on for exciting and ever evolving wines
