Founded in 1879, inglenook remains one of Napa Valley’s crown jewels. The estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon pays tribute to John Daniel Jr. and his legendary 1941 vintage, crafted today from organically farmed fruit under the direction of Philippe Bascaules of Château Margaux.

Inglenook Cabernet carries forward a legacy that began with cuttings brought from Bordeaux more than a century ago. Produced exclusively from the estate’s organically farmed vineyards and guided by Philippe Bascaules, this wine unites history, heritage, and the timeless character of Rutherford.

Tasting Notes

Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 exemplifies the rich heritage and unparalleled craftsmanship of Napa Valley’s historic Inglenook estate, founded in 1879. This premium Cabernet Sauvignon honors the legacy of John Daniel Jr. and the iconic 1941 vintage, a benchmark that continues to inspire the estate’s winemaking philosophy today.

Produced exclusively from organically farmed grapes grown in Inglenook’s Rutherford vineyards, this wine captures the essence of one of Napa Valley’s most celebrated terroirs. Rutherford is renowned for its distinctive “Rutherford dust”—a unique dusty tannin texture that adds complexity and depth to Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2022 vintage benefits from meticulous vineyard management and the expert direction of Philippe Bascaules, the esteemed winemaker from Château Margaux, who brings a refined balance of tradition and modern finesse to the blend.

The palate reveals a profound depth of dark berries and cassis, layered with subtle notes of cedar and tobacco. These flavors are supported by elegant tannins and vibrant acidity, providing structure and excellent aging potential. The wine’s refined profile showcases Inglenook’s commitment to sustainable, organic farming practices and its dedication to producing wines that reflect both historical significance and contemporary excellence.

Available as a pre-arrival offer with estimated dispatch from April 2026, the Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 presents a rare opportunity to acquire a future classic. Whether enjoyed upon release or cellared to develop further complexity, this wine stands as a distinguished expression of Napa Valley’s premier terroir and a tribute to a storied winemaking tradition.

Critic Scores

(Napa Valley; 92% Cabernet Sauvignon; 6.5% Cabernet Franc; 1.5% Petit Verdot; 14% alcohol). Gracious classicism and a lovely dark stony fruit with a glorious natural sweet ripeness to it. A hint of graphite, a touch of cedar, a little cassis. Crumbly Cabernet tannins massage the fruit, but ever so gently. Enticing and all in balance and harmony. This speaks eloquently of where it comes from. Likely to prove excellent value. - Colin Hay

Concentrated, muscular, leafy and fragrant, this is ripped with blueberry, blackberry, crushed rocks, campfire, eucalyptus and baking spice. Director of winemaking Philippe Bascaules, Todd Devincenzi winemaker. - Jane Anson
