The 2022 Rubicon, tasted as a barrel sample and composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6.1% Cabernet Franc, 6.1% Merlot, and 2.8% Petit Verdot, is deep garnet-purple in color. Notes of black cherry compote, warm cassis, and boysenberry preserves leap from the glass, leading to touches of violets, cedar chest, and tilled soil. The medium to full-bodied palate reveals a fine-grained texture of nice ripe tannins and bags of freshness to frame the tightly wound black fruit layers, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown for The Wine Independent (96-98 points)

(Napa Valley; 85% Cabernet Sauvignon; 6% Cabernet Franc; 6.5% Merlot; 2.5% Petit Verdot; 14.3% alcohol; aged for 18 months in 75% new oak). From a very hot vintage, so the secret here is in the very gentle extraction. The fruit was all sourced from Inglenook’s more volcanic terroirs. This is immediately tight and taut, tense and quite racy for a wine with so much mid-palate density. Cedar. Incense. Candlewax. Black pen ink. Black tea. A mix of red and darker berry fruits. Bramble, mulberry and a little black cherry, but with a few raspberries and black raspberries thrown in too. This has the most gracious of tannins, ultra-fine grained and super svelte. Impressively aerial and crystalline too. I love the gentle taper towards the finish, as the diameter of the spherical core slowly descends to a distant vanishing point on the horizon. - Colin Hay

Chinese five spice, fragrant pepper, raspberries, raisins and stewed strawberries alongside liquorice, tobacco and clove. Lots of savoury spice straight away here but with plenty of black cherry and blackcurrant too. Still on the oaky side right now but there’s precision too and a feeling of classiness. I love the succulence, the acidity is there undermining the wine and will serve it well for long ageing. Give this time. Well made, clearly a very good wine with brightness and personality. Medium intensity ruby red, one of the standouts of the lineup. Full dark berry and mint leaf Cabernet character, generous, juicy, with energy and forward motion. This delivers campfire, liquorice, cocoa bean and incense without missing a beat. A warm vintage, so the challenge was being ready to pick and to avoid dehydration, meaning a touch of irrigation at the end of August, and to compensate during winemaking by soft extractions, 75% new French oak for ageing. New winery, built into a knoll within the property, opened for this 2022 vintage, with over 100 stainless steel vats. Harvest September 1 through to the end of the month. This top wine from Inglenook offers complex, perfumed aromas, lots of dark fruit flavors and a structured but velvety texture. Spearmint, black cherries and balsam on the nose, then black cherries, dried blueberries and raspberries on the palate, Touches of savory herbs, iron and black olives complement the juicy, gorgeous fruit flavors. The tannins are full but very rounded and fine-grained. Contains 85% cabernet sauvignon plus smaller amounts of merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Drinkable now, but best from 2030. - Jim Gordon
