Izway Wines is a small Barossa Valley producer founded by Craig Isbel and Brian Conway, working from an off-grid winery. 'Three Brians' comes from a single plot of gnarled, bush-vine grenache said to be around 120 years old and organically grown, from which only about 560 bottles were made. Ancient Barossa grenache of this age drives deep roots into sandy and clay-loam soils, giving natural balance and concentration at moderate ripeness without irrigation. The 2023 Barossa season was cooler and later than the run of recent warm vintages, and it delivered a wine of flow, freshness and elegance rather than power.

The old-vine fruit was hand-picked and made with minimal intervention at Izway's off-grid winery, then hand-bottled on site, so the wine did not leave the property until release. In keeping with a modern Barossa grenache approach the winemaking favours gentle handling, restrained extraction and maturation in seasoned oak to protect the variety's silky, perfumed character rather than mask it. The result is a supple, juicy grenache with pure, fine tannin and an elegant, flowing palate.
