Tasting Notes

"Produced in much the same style as our well-known ‘Doug’s Vineyard’ cuveé, though hailing from the exposed granite soils of Dash Farms.

Bright ruby red, and immediately inviting, dark red cherry, exotic spices and woody herb aromatics fill the glass, with a subtle flinty, smoky complexity. The palate as is usual for our style is full of plump red cherry and spicy complexity, structured by fresh acid and fine, powdery tannins which lend plenty of seriousness to this early release wine.

Open and appealing at present, this Pinot Noir will also reward medium term cellaring with additional complexity and nuance. A wonderful weekday wine, or introduction to our style."

Vinification & Cultivation

Vineyard Cultivation

Joshua Cooper, son of Cobaw Ridge's Alan Cooper, launched his own Macedon Ranges-based label in the mid-2010s, working with old-vine and single-site parcels across central Victoria under a minimal-intervention, sustainable and organic ethos. His Regional Series (also seen as Regional Release) sits alongside the single-vineyard bottlings. The 2025 draws its Pinot Noir from the exposed granite soils of Dash Farms in the Bendigo region, hand-harvested to preserve the pure, finely textured red fruit typical of the site. Farming is low-input, with attention to whole-vine balance and picking on flavour and acidity rather than sugar alone.

Vinification

The fruit was entirely hand-harvested and vinified with a light touch: fermentation with indigenous yeast, gentle handling of the cap, and pressing to seasoned French oak for maturation. Extended time on lees builds the wine's supple, textural mouthfeel while retaining the tart cherry and raspberry fruit, floral rose-petal lift and sweet-spice notes that define the style. Sulphur and additions are kept low in keeping with the house's minimal-intervention approach, and the wine is bottled under Diam closure. Whole-bunch proportion and any new-oak component are not specified.
