Tasting Notes

Kaesler ‘The Bogan’ Shiraz 2023 is a quintessential, full-bodied Barossa Shiraz crafted from fruit grown on historic vineyards planted in 1889 and 1965. These mature vines provide exceptional depth, concentration and distinctive character.

Richly structured and generously styled, The Bogan captures the power and intensity of classic Australian Shiraz. Maturation in 30% new French oak contributes refined oak complexity while complementing the wine’s bold, full-bodied profile.

Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this premium red wine retains its natural texture, richness and intensity. A compelling expression of Barossa Shiraz, it offers depth, structure and generous flavour in every glass.

Critic Scores

A dark, plummy red in the glass. Lifted and heady aromas of mulberry, pudding spice, plum conserve, dried flowers and a brambly earthiness. Plush, mouth-filling and concentrated, with a drive of dark fruits, powdery, textured tannins and some lively acidity. A wine with power and presence. 07 Aug 2026 - Aaron Brasher

About this Wine

Kaesler

Kaesler is a Barossa Valley winery, through and through. The Kaesler family first settled on the estate in 1845 and by the mid-1890s they had planted vineyards and winemaking was in full swing. The estate was in the family’s hands until 1986, but it wasn’t until 1999, when winemaker Reid Bosworth came along, that the Kaesler wine legacy jumped back in to gear.

With a focus on old-vine Shiraz, Kaesler has made a name for itself as a Barossa Valley stalwart on the back of its Kaesler Old Bastard, The Bogan, Alte Reben and Stonehorse wines.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
