Tasting Notes

Tim Freeland and Domenic Torzi sourced this Pinot Gris from the panoramic Adelaide Hills' hamlet of Forreston.

Coupled with their non-interventional, vegan friendly approach to winemaking, Longhop wines are fresh, generous and full of flavour.

With this Pinot Gris expect freshly picked orchard fruits of pear, honeydew and apple. Food match with spiced eastern cuisines or oven-roasted vegetables, chicken or pork.

Vineyard Cultivation

Longhop is a South Australian label built on sourcing characterful parcels at accessible prices. Its Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris draws on the elevated hamlet of Forreston in the Mount Lofty Ranges, where altitude and cool nights preserve aromatic freshness and crisp acidity. The Hills' sandy loams and ironstone over clay give moderate vigour and delicate orchard-fruit expression, farmed with a non-interventional, vegan-friendly philosophy through vineyard and cellar. The 2025 vintage in the Adelaide Hills followed a mild, largely benign growing season with good ripening conditions for white varieties, allowing the Pinot Gris to reach flavour ripeness while holding the fresh line of natural acidity that keeps the style lively and generous.

Vinification

Fruit was picked in the cool early hours to protect aromatics, then gently whole-bunch pressed for clean free-run juice with minimal skin contact to keep the wine fresh rather than phenolic. After cold settling, fermentation took place at low temperature in stainless steel to lock in varietal pear, apple and honeydew character and preserve brightness. The wine was fermented to dryness and rested briefly on light lees for a little texture and mid-palate weight, following the non-interventional, vegan-friendly approach the label favours. It was bottled early under screwcap to retain its lively perfume, crisp acidity and generous, easy-drinking fruit.

About this Wine

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
