Longview is a single-estate, family-owned vineyard at Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills, owned by the Saturno family and managed by Peter Saturno. The Jupiter Barbera comes from a block of two Piedmontese clones (84 and 424) planted in 2010 on a gently north-facing slope of shallow sandy clay-loam over ironstone and quartz. The vines are cane and spur pruned to stagger picking dates across parcels, and the two clones are harvested and vinified separately before final blending. The cool, elevated Adelaide Hills climate suits Barbera's naturally high acidity, and the 2021 season, widely regarded as excellent in the Hills, gave ripe, deeply coloured fruit with retained freshness.

The clones were hand-harvested and bunch-sorted, then vinified separately using traditional techniques, remaining on skins for around two weeks before pressing. The wine was matured in a 1,500-litre Slavonian oak cask together with seasoned French oak puncheons, a format that lends structure and gentle oxidative complexity while keeping oak flavour in the background. This approach, inspired by the more modern school of Piedmont, produced the mocha and dark-cherry profile, savoury spice and balancing tannin noted by critics, with the large-format and seasoned oak preserving the wine's dark fruit and freshness.
