Lowestoft is a premium Tasmanian estate owned by the Fogarty Wine Group, centred on the historic Lowestoft homestead at Berriedale near Hobart, one of Tasmania's oldest houses built between 1839 and 1850, where vines were among the first planted in the district. The Jacobsen Single Vineyard Pinot comes from a high-altitude site in the Lower Derwent Valley, where cool temperatures, long ripening and elevation give lifted aromatics and clarity of fruit. Soils are well-drained over a mudstone and dolerite base, farmed meticulously for low yields and even ripening. The 2022 Tasmanian season was cool and relatively dry, extending hang time and preserving the perfume, fine tannin and bright acidity that mark the wine.

Fruit was hand-picked and carefully sorted, then mostly destemmed with a considered portion of whole bunches to build spice, perfume and tannin complexity. After a cold pre-fermentation soak, the wine underwent wild fermentation in small open vessels with gentle hand plunging to extract colour and fine, pliant tannin. It was pressed to French oak barriques, a proportion new, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was matured on fine lees to add texture and seamlessly integrate cedary oak. Bottled with minimal intervention, the wine shows exotically spiced red cherry, raspberry and red plum, dried herbs and undergrowth, with lithe, pillowy tannins and a long, savoury, complex finish.
