Tasting Notes

Description

Mr. Mick Pinot Grigio follows the core philosophy of our range of wines, quite simply an ‘easy-going’ wine that creates interest and satisfies many palates.

The 2024 vintage is one of the most exciting releases of our Mr. Mick Pinot Grigio, with the wine showing lifted aromas of green mango, nashi pear and pineapple with an underlay herbal touch of fresh sage. Like most Italian varieties, Mr. Mick Pinot Grigio is a versatile variety and therefore is also suited to a broad array of cuisine.

The palate shows more stone fruit richness in perfect balance with a fresh and lengthy acidity. A classic Italian style!

Winemaking Notes

Bottled as soon as possible and under screwcap to retain all the fresh and delicate aromas.

Growing Conditions

The climate and soils of South Australia enable us to produce Pinot Grigio very similar to the grape’s origin in northern Italy. Fruit was harvested at peak flavour maturity from the family-owned vineyard in the Riverland, the juice separated from skins, cold settled and fermented for 14 days. A steady and cool ferment ensures the maximum expression of the varietal character of Pinot Grigio.

Food Pairing

This wine can be enjoyed on its own or with a wide range of food, particularly spicy dishes or seafood.a

Vineyard Cultivation

Mr Mick is the value-focused label of Tim Adams Wines in the Clare Valley, named in honour of the late Karl Hubert 'Mr Mick' Knappstein, the legendary Clare winemaker who mentored Tim Adams early in his career. The range is built on the everyday philosophy of 'wines for everyone to enjoy' while respecting each variety's character. Fruit for this Pinot Grigio is drawn from Clare Valley plantings, where the district's elevation, warm days and cool nights over slate, shale and red-brown loam soils help preserve natural acidity. As a non-vintage release, parcels are selected to give a consistent house style rather than to express a single season.

Vinification

Grapes are picked in the cool of the day to protect aromatics, then crushed and gently pressed to separate the free-run juice from the skins before a cool, controlled fermentation in stainless steel. The wine is made in the crisp, dry Italian grigio idiom, with little or no skin contact and no oak, leaving a light, fresh and fruit-driven palate. Minimal lees work and early bottling preserve the pear, apple and citrus character and the wine's spritely, refreshing acidity.

About this Wine

Clare Valley

Situated in the Mid North of South Australia, approximately 120 km north of Adelaide is one of Australia's oldest wine regions the Clare Valley. The area is broken up into three sub-regions, the Polish Hill River region to the east, the Central Clare Valley, and the Skillogalee Valley to the west.

Often associated with some of Australia's finest Riesling the cool climate and differing terroirs have paved the way for exciting and diverse wines over a plethora of varietals resulting in wines of pure expression and great length. Home to some of Australia's most iconic wineries - cult producers like Wendouree, to Australian icons such as Kilikanoon and boutique producers like Atlas, the Clare Valley is definitely an area to keep an eye on for exciting and ever evolving wines
