Tasting Notes

Sourced from the Nurringa Park Vineyard from it’s north part, right next to the ocean, just one kilometre from
it, this site combines sandy loam, dark clay and limestone soils, planted in 1994 to clones I10V1 and I10V5.
Fruit was handpicked and pressed straight to oak with full solids. Fermentation took place in a cold room, with the wine sulphured in place post-primary. 20% was matured in new French oak, with the remainder in
seasoned barriques a

Critic Scores

From a vineyard on the water in Port Arlington planted in '94. 20% new French barriques; 15% mlf. Mulline
took full control of the vineyard in '23, and it now shows in what's the best Port Arlington Chardonnay I've
tasted. Aromas of perfectly ripened stone fruits, orange blossom and a touch of sea spray precede the chalky, nicely concentrated and very well-balanced palate. A delight to consume now and over the next three to five
years plus

Chardonnay from a 20+-year-old vineyard.

This is an absolute belter. Straight to the pool room with this one. It’s saline, driven by white peach, neatly tucked with oak and then exceptionally focussed and sustained through the finish. From all angles this wine is a definite yes. We’re onto something pretty special here. Don’t hesitate.

Vineyard Cultivation

Mulline Vintners is a Geelong producer founded in 2019 by winemaker Ben Mullen and Ben Hine, known for a Burgundian, site-focused approach to the region's cool-climate whites. This single-vineyard Chardonnay is sourced from the Nurringa Park vineyard at Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula, from its northern part just a kilometre from the water. The site combines sandy loam, dark clay and limestone soils and was planted in 1994 to clones I10V1 and I10V5. Mulline took full control of the vineyard in 2023, and the maritime influence of the nearby bay drives the wine's saline, citrus-focused character. The cool 2024 season delivered fruit of purity and drive, expressed through white stone fruit, orange blossom and a chalky, concentrated palate.

Vinification

Fruit was handpicked and pressed straight to oak with full solids, a reductive, textural approach in the Burgundian mould. Fermentation took place in a cold room, with the wine sulphured in place after primary fermentation and roughly 15 percent taken through malolactic fermentation to soften the acid line. Around 20 percent was matured in new French barriques, with the remainder in seasoned barrels, building a fine, chalky texture while keeping the fruit and cool-climate acidity in focus. The result is a saline, white peach-driven Chardonnay with orange blossom, a touch of sea spray and a well-balanced, concentrated finish.
