The 2022 growing season in Langhorne Creek presented variable conditions typical of the region—cooler than McLaren Vale, with coastal influence moderating temperature extremes and promoting slow, extended ripening. Langhorne Creek's alluvial gravels and deep loamy soils over clay are ideally suited to cabernet sauvignon, favouring structural development and mineral expression. This vintage cabernet was harvested from mature vineyard blocks selected specifically for reserve quality, where reduced vigour and older rootstocks concentrate flavour. The cooler Langhorne Creek terroir imparts greater structural definition to cabernet than warmer McLaren Vale sites.

The 2022 harvest proceeded in mid-April, capturing cabernet at full phenolic ripeness despite cooler growing conditions. Whole bunches were crushed and given a ten-day cold maceration before inoculation with selected yeasts, maximising colour development and tannin extraction from the Langhorne Creek fruit. The fourteen-day fermentation was managed at moderate temperature to preserve fragrance and develop complexity. The wine spent twenty months in French oak (Allier and Vosges), the longer élevage appropriate for the structure developed in cooler-climate cabernet. Bottling occurred with minimal clarification to preserve tannin integrity.
