Petrichor Wines is a small Tasmanian producer established by Kate and Tim, who visited Tasmania in 2006, relocated their family from Sydney in 2014 and bought land in the Coal River Valley at Tea Tree in 2017. Tim brings experience as former general manager at Pooley Wines and cellar work at Yalumba and Wirra Wirra. The Single Vineyard Pinot is sourced predominantly from twenty-year-old vines in the Tea Tree area, north-east of Hobart, grown on gravelly, volcanic-derived soils. The cool, dry Coal River Valley, one of Tasmania's warmer and lower-rainfall pockets, favours structured, aromatic Pinot; the 2023 vintage delivered a delicate yet intense wine of power, length and fine tannin.

The 2023 was hand-picked and destemmed with 20 percent whole bunches retained, then cold-soaked for six days to build colour and aromatics. Wild-yeast fermentation followed with gentle hand-plunging, before the wine was basket-pressed to older oak barriques for malolactic conversion and eleven months' maturation on fine lees. It was then gravity-racked to tank for a further four months, and bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur. This low-intervention handling gives a wine of cranberry, strawberry and raspberry aromas layered with spice and herbs, over a vibrant, luscious palate of rhubarb, red fruits, spice and sour cherry tempered by bright acidity and superfine tannins.
