Critic Scores

This estate produces a range of wines, including the single-vineyard San Cristoforo cru, a southeast-facing site in Neive. The nose is lavish, with ripe cherry and raspberry aromas. It's concentrated and forthright on the palate, showing density without excessive extraction, although the firm tannins give ample structure, amplified by ageing in mostly new tonneaux. The finish is assertive and spicy, with admirable length.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

The San Cristoforo vineyard, located within Barbaresco DOCG, represents one of Piedmont's most distinguished Nebbiolo terroirs. The site's northwest-facing slopes and white-clay soils with limestone bedrock provide ideal conditions for Nebbiolo's late ripening and the development of the region's characteristic perfume and structure. The 2016 vintage benefited from warm, dry conditions that allowed optimal phenolic ripeness whilst preserving natural acidity—conditions that enabled the production of Barbaresco with both power and elegance. The vineyard's meticulous canopy management and selective harvesting ensured fruit of excellent quality.

Vinification

Grapes underwent extended fermentation in large wooden vats, a traditional practice that permits thorough extraction of colour, tannin, and aromatic compounds. Following fermentation, the wine aged in large oak casks—a protocol fundamental to Barbaresco's evolution. Over approximately two years in wood, the wine underwent gradual maturation, the initially austere tannins softening whilst secondary flavours developed. Regular interaction between wine and wood air-space encouraged aromatic complexity. Minimal handling and unfiltered bottling preserved the wine's full character and potential for decades of cellaring.
