Vinification & Cultivation

Vineyard Cultivation

Langhe Nebbiolo represents a more youthful expression of Nebbiolo than Barolo or Barbaresco, made from fruit outside the tightly defined DOCG zones yet from quality vineyard sites across the Langhe hills. Pietro Rinaldi's Argante vineyard exemplifies this category—situated on well-drained slopes with clay-limestone soils characteristic of the broader region. The 2023 vintage was notably cool and wet, with later-season precipitation followed by warm conditions in September and October. This challenging season stressed the vines moderately, concentrating flavours whilst maintaining fresh acidity—conditions that often produce Nebbiolo of particular aromatic intensity and structure.

Vinification

Langhe Nebbiolo typically receives shorter fermentation and less extensive oak maturation than Barolo or Barbaresco, a protocol that emphasises fruit expression and fresher character. The wine was likely fermented in large wooden vessels over two to three weeks, permitting good extraction of Nebbiolo's characteristic colour and tannin without excessive concentration. Maturation in oak—probably spanning twelve to eighteen months—allowed the wine to develop complexity whilst preserving the youthful energy and aromatic clarity typical of the category. The result offers Nebbiolo's structural character in a more approachable, earlier-drinking form.
