Critic Scores

Incredible aromas of blackberries, blueberries, dark chocolate and hints of cream. Roses, rose petals and leaves. Speechless. Full-bodied, tight and concentrated. The finish is endless. Perfect harmony. Made from a selection of the best grapes from the oldest vines: 70% romirasco, 15% cicala and 15% colonnello. All co-fermented and macerated for one month in wood. Aged in a 25-hectoliter cask for 33 months. Five years in bottle. Only 3,000 bottles. Perfect now and it will improve with age for decades ahead.

Vineyard Cultivation

Granbussia is the most celebrated single vineyard of Poderi Aldo Conterno, located in the Bussia cru of Serralunga d'Alba. The 2008 growing season was cool and wet in spring, demanding meticulous canopy management; summer recovered with warmth and dryness, achieving full phenolic maturity by late October. The parcel's clay-limestone soil and south-facing aspect naturally ripen Nebbiolo to the concentration required for a riserva declaration. Yields are kept low through severe pruning and hand-thinning to ensure depth of flavour.

Vinification

The 2008 vintage underwent full traditional fermentation in large wooden vats, with skin maceration lasting 25–30 days to build the robust tannin structure appropriate to riserva classification. Post-harvest malolactic conversion took place in large Slavonian oak casks. The wine aged in wood for approximately 40 months before a further period in bottle prior to release, permitting gradual integration and development of secondary complexity.
