Poderi Aldo Conterno Granbussia Riserva Barolo 2010 is a monumental expression of the Nebbiolo grape, expertly crafted to embody the rich tradition and unparalleled quality of Piemonte’s Langhe region. This prestigious Barolo undergoes a meticulous aging process, spending 32 months in large Slavonian oak casks followed by a further decade of bottle aging, ensuring the wine reaches full maturity and reveals its complex character only when Aldo Conterno himself considers it ready for release.

Harvested from prime vineyards during the exceptional 2010 vintage—renowned for its ideal climatic conditions that fostered balance and concentration—this Granbussia Riserva captures the essence of Langhe terroir with remarkable finesse. The vintage is celebrated for producing Nebbiolo wines with refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and persistent structure, all of which are vividly present in this wine.

The wine showcases a deep ruby color and an alluring bouquet enriched with layers of dark cherry, rose petals, dried herbs, and subtle undertones of leather and tobacco. On the palate, it delivers a powerful yet elegant structure, featuring firm yet silky tannins and a spectrum of layered flavors that evolve beautifully with every sip. The lingering finish is a testament to its heritage, complexity, and aging potential.

Critic Scores

Glorious aromas of roses and other flowers with blackberries and ripe plums. Spectacular. Perfection. Full-bodied, firm and chewy with polished and tight tannins. Slightly dusty. Great length and beauty. Very, very persistent on the palate. Needs another two or three years to soften, but already a classic.

Alluring aromas of cherry, plum, sandalwood, rose and wild herbs highlight this expressive red. Deceptive, starting out elegant, until the dense weave of tannins emerges on the long, mineral-tinged finish.

Vinification & Cultivation

Vineyard Cultivation

The 2010 vintage followed a balanced growing season with moderate spring rainfall and a warm, sunny summer. Granbussia's location in Serralunga d'Alba, with its south-facing limestone-clay slopes, produced phenolically ripe Nebbiolo with natural balance between ripeness and acidity. The vintage is recognised across Piedmont for structural elegance and fruit purity. Low-yield viticulture at Poderi Aldo Conterno ensured concentrated berries; altitude and aspect moderated daytime temperature, preserving essential tension for long-term cellaring.

Vinification

The 2010 harvest was processed through traditional open-vat fermentation with extended skin contact (28–32 days) under native yeast, extracting the deep colour and structured tannins characteristic of Granbussia Riserva. Malolactic conversion occurred in large Slavonian oak casks, preserving the wine's mineral expression and terroir character. Approximately 40 months in wood preceded bottling and further bottle maturation before release, allowing tannin integration and aromatic development.
