Poonawatta is a historic family-owned Eden Valley estate, with roots dating back to the late 19th century. The Cuttings Shiraz reflects the region’s cool-climate pedigree, where altitude and old vineyards produce Shiraz with remarkable perfume, structure and longevity.

Rich yet refined, it delivers blackberry, plum, pepper and subtle savoury spice with fine tannins, making it an excellent choice for steak, roast lamb or customers looking for elegant, age-worthy South Australian Shiraz.

Tasting Notes

Poonawatta The Cuttings Shiraz 2006 is a refined expression of premium Eden Valley Shiraz from the historic, family-owned Poonawatta estate, whose winemaking roots date back to the late 19th century. Sourced from a premium private cellar, this distinguished South Australian red reflects the perfume, structure and longevity associated with the region’s high-altitude vineyards.

Rich yet elegant, the mature 2006 vintage offers enticing aromas and flavours of blackberry, ripe plum, cracked pepper and subtle savoury spice. Fine, polished tannins provide balance, structure and length, while the wine’s age brings additional depth and complexity to its cool-climate Shiraz profile.

A graceful, age-worthy red wine, The Cuttings Shiraz 2006 is beautifully suited to grilled steak, roast lamb, slow-cooked beef and richly flavoured dishes. Decant before serving to allow its layered character to unfold.

About this Wine

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
