Tasting Notes

Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Rabaja Riserva 2019 exemplifies the revered tradition of one of Barbaresco's most celebrated crus. Sourced from a premium private cellar, this vintage captures the essence of the Rabaja vineyard, known for producing wines with exceptional depth and structure.

Crafted exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, the 2019 Riserva showcases the intense, ripe fruit character typical of this prestigious variety. The wine reveals a harmonious balance of vibrant acidity and refined tannins, promising remarkable aging potential. With a recommended cellaring window of 20 to 30 years, it offers a unique opportunity to experience the evolution of Barbaresco's signature elegance and complexity over time.

The 2019 vintage benefited from ideal climatic conditions in the Piedmont region, allowing grapes to reach optimal ripeness while preserving aromatic freshness. This has resulted in a wine that is both powerful and nuanced, with layers of red cherry, rose petal, and subtle spice that unfold on the palate.

This Barbaresco Riserva is a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship and terroir-driven philosophy of Produttori del Barbaresco. The Rabaja cru's distinctive minerality and fine-grained texture are evident, making this Riserva a prized addition for collectors and connoisseurs of premium Italian wines.

Experience the timeless elegance and structured intensity of Nebbiolo from one of Barbaresco’s most iconic vineyards with the 2019 Rabaja Riserva.

Critic Scores

Balsamic aromas of camphor mingle with pressed rose, wild berry, new leather and dark spice. Showing intensity and structure, the full-bodied, delicious palate boasts a weightless concentration, delivering fleshy raspberry, blood orange, almond liqueur and licorice alongside tightly woven, velvety tannins. Fresh acidity lifts the rich flavors and provides great balance.

The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Rabaja is redolent of dark fruit, crushed rocks, graphite, sage, menthol and lavender all race across the palate, supported by bracing, young Rabaja tannins that make themselves felt. This mid-weight, powerhouse Barbaresco packs quite a punch.

Vinification & Cultivation

Vineyard Cultivation

Rabaja's calcareous marl and chalk soils within Produttori del Barbaresco's collective holdings deliver this cru's characteristic mineral-driven expression. The cooperative's 120 hectares across Barbaresco's three communes benefit from integrated viticulture adapted to each site's terroir. The 2019 growing season proved warm and dry across Piedmont, producing well-ripened Nebbiolo with concentrated aromatics and natural structure. The vintage's positive ripening conditions ensured phenolic maturity and lower-than-average yields, concentrating fruit character and tannin profiles ideal for Riserva production and long-term development.

Vinification

Traditional methods governed the 2019 Rabaja Riserva: hand-harvested Nebbiolo underwent destemming followed by fermentation with natural yeasts in temperature-controlled vessels. Maceration extended over weeks to extract the tannin and colour compounds essential to Barbaresco's structure. Malolactic fermentation occurred within large wooden barrels where the wine aged for the requisite Riserva timeframe (minimum four years total before release). The winemaking protocol emphasises terroir preservation, using neutral or minimal-impact oak to allow Rabaja's vineyard character to define the wine's aromatic and structural profile.
