"at $32 RRP this is ludicrously interesting and good" Mike Bennie (The Wine Front).

Bryan Martin is crafting some of the most exciting wines made in Australia. The quality far exceeds the price of the wines.

Tasting Notes

The Ravensworth 2025 Regional Riesling is a dry, highly aromatic and textural expression that takes a thoughtful step away from the conventional. Sourced from four Canberra District vineyards including Ravensworth’s own Long Rail Gully site, it shows delicacy and lift alongside depth and quiet power. Floral and gently spicy aromatics lead into vibrant citrus, while the palate carries impressive flavour and shape, built through extended lees contact and maturation across ceramic eggs, concrete and large format foudre. The result is a layered, savoury edged Riesling with balance, energy and longevity, shaped by a warm, early vintage and crafted for both immediate enjoyment and long term cellaring. Ideal with seafood such as scallops and molluscs, or surprisingly well suited to roast pork.

Critic Scores

Murrumbateman via three vineyards outside of the Estate though a bit of that goes in too. Fermented and hangs out in concrete, ceramic and foudre. Goes well with Bryan Martin’s kimchi that I didn’t realise was in the box and exploded out of the cryovac sachet it came in like a badly made pet nat. That being said, the kimchi itself was 97 points.

This is a savoury-leaning yet scintillating riesling. It doesn’t scrimp on pickled lime, preserved lemon, ginger, lemongrass and green apple scents and then relays the same in concentrated flavours. Green almond calls in, a little jalapeno and white balsamic lift too. Intense, vibrant, exceptional persistence and heaps of character. At $32 RRP this is ludicrously interesting and good, and willingly steps out of rote winemaking to do so. Kudos.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

Ravensworth was established by Bryan Martin near Murrumbateman in the Canberra District of New South Wales, and the Regional Riesling draws its name from a spread of sites rather than a single block. Fruit comes from three vineyards around Murrumbateman, with a portion of estate-grown material folded in. The district sits at elevation on granitic and clay-loam soils under a continental climate of warm days and genuinely cold nights, a rhythm that preserves the taut natural acidity riesling needs. Martin farms with a strong organic and biodynamic emphasis. The 2025 season yielded ripe yet vibrant fruit, picked to hold the wine's characteristic line and drive.

Vinification

Fruit was pressed gently and the juice fermented and matured across a spread of vessels rather than a single tank, taking in concrete, ceramic eggs and large-format foudre. This mix of materials builds texture and a subtle savoury dimension while keeping the wine's fruit clarity intact. A portion of wild fermentation adds complexity, and extended time on lees rounds the mid-palate without softening the acid backbone. No new oak is used, so the emphasis stays on the pickled-lime, preserved-lemon and green-apple character. The result is an intense, mineral, savoury-leaning riesling with exceptional persistence and clear cellaring potential.
