Vineyard Cultivation

Santa Margherita, founded in 1935 by Gaetano Marzotto and based at Fossalta di Portogruaro in the Veneto, is the house that in 1961 pioneered the modern, dry, white-vinified style of Pinot Grigio. This flagship bottling carries the Valdadige DOC in Trentino-Alto Adige in north-eastern Italy, where Pinot Grigio grows on alluvial and morainic soils along the Adige valley under an Alpine-influenced climate. Cool nights and warm days preserve aromatic freshness and crisp acidity in the fruit. As a consistent non-vintage-styled release the house draws on selected northern Italian vineyards and blends for continuity year to year, favouring balance, purity and a clean, refreshing profile.

Vinification

The grapes are pressed and vinified off their skins to make a pale, dry white in the style Santa Margherita established, with the must fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel to protect the delicate citrus, green apple and pear aromatics. There is no skin contact and the wine sees no oak, preserving its crispness and lively acidity. It is bottled young and unoaked to retain freshness and the characteristic clean, zesty palate, with careful blending across parcels to deliver a harmonious, balanced and immediately approachable style suited to early drinking.
