Critic Scores

Deep garnet with a bright crimson rim, showing excellent maturity and concentration.

The nose is fragrant offering ripe blackcurrant, cassis and blackberry fruit layered with cedar, cocoa, dried herbs and subtle savoury spice.

On the palate this is medium to full-bodied and well-structured. Dense black fruit is supported by polished tannins and a savoury oak influence that adds texture and complexity. The wine is balanced and composed, with fresh acidity keeping it energetic and focused, with good persistency and a touch of earthy complexity.

Vino Masters Score: 95/100

★★★★★ A confidently made Coonawarra Cabernet that delivers depth, balance and excellent drinking pleasure.

The aroma is wonderfully complex and inviting, featuring notes of dark berry, herbaceous bouquet garni, nutmeg, cedar, and dried flowers. The palate offers a rich expression with impressive weight, supported by a refined texture and finely balanced tannins. It is beautifully composed and elegantly styled, with a classic structure that finishes with a remarkably long and robust aftertaste.

Intensely flavoured with chocolate-coated blackberries, currants, mint leaf lollies and refreshing leafy cabernet nuances. It's full bodied and rich, with the cedary sweet toasty French oak adding another layer. Thankfully this stops short of being too ripe and too much. Just.

Seriously well priced for a wine which has ten years under its belt, this Coonawarra Cabernet came from the sub-regions of Racecourse and Glenroy. After the parcels were discretely fermented and had a year and a half in barrels, they were then blended and given a further 22 months maturation. Black/maroon in colour, on the nose we see notes of chocolate, plums, beef stock, cloves, charcuterie, campfires, warm earth and cocoa powder. The wine has structure and power with good focus and concentration. There is impressive length through the fine tannins. The wine should provide pleasure for at least the next decade.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
