Fine, integrated dusty tannins carry concentrated dark fruit through a long and savoury mid-palate, while notes of cocoa, graphite and subtle mint emerge with remarkable detail. Bold and gorgeously complex, the wine shows blackcurrant, sweet plum, cocoa, warm spice, thyme, and assorted nut aromas on the nose. The palate displays outstanding weight and richness, wonderfully framed by plush texture and polished tannins. Harmonious and mouth-filling, with a persistent, satisfying finish.

In case you're wondering why a wine from 2013 is still available: the decision was made to hold back a portion of the release for further aging in the cellar before subsequent release as a mature, developed wine. This was a very good season, and the wine, sourced from the Clare Valley in South Australia, has started to develop some lovely combinations. On the nose and into the richly textured palate, aromas of wet leather, black fruits, and dark chocolate swirl through a complex bouquet. The palate is seamlessly woven together, an intricate maze of chocolatey dark fruits, chalky tannins, and fine-grained oak. Quite superb, and still with plenty of time left in the cellar. To me, this wine sits in that neat zone where some primary characters remain but secondary characters are emerging, creating a wine of great interest.

A wine with deep colour and a perfume of Rosella, tulip and boysenberries. The wine is packed with black plum and some thorny herbs and pine thistle. Tannins are woven like silk, covering every inch of your palate and extending the flavour of red and blackberried fruit. Mocha and pomegranate molasses, red gum bark and clay soils. This is intensely flavoured, moreish and satisfying at every turn. A wine that has held its pedigree over time in bottle and is impressive with its richness but quite agile and bright with vivid fruit weight and freshness, this still has another decade ahead of it. If you decide to indulge now, this would be spectacular with grass fed scotch filet and peppercorn sauce. 96 Points

Here’s a seductive and rich chocolaty wine layered with peppermint and baking spices, and ripe black fruit. Tannin is fat and well massaged, the acidity nicely bedded down, and the finish is long, deep and seasoned with sage and spice, and perhaps some tobacco and more savoury stuff. It’s very good.
