The parcel of fruit for this wine was sourced from a McLaren Vale vineyard located where the Willunga Foothills meet the valley floor. It has a unique elevation with direct views to the ocean and welcome cooling sea breezes. First planted in 1995/96, the viticultural team is passionate about environmental health.

The fruit was just destemmed to maximise the whole berries in the ferment. The parcel was inoculated with Clos yeast in a static fermenter. Gentle pump- overs twice daily with air sparged through during pump-over to provide the yeast with oxygen as well as to help stabilise colour and give soft and silky tannins. The wine spent 7 days on skins and went through malo-lactic fermentation naturally. Was racked after the end of primary ferment to remove gross lees and then again at the end of malo-lactic. Was matured in 300L barrels for 18 months, with 20% new oak, 100% French fine grain oak to give complexity to the wine, before blending and bottling with no fining. Winemaker: Renae Hirsch

Palate shows intensity, richness and a luscious generous mouthfeel. Filled with attractive blackberries, dark plum, subtle vanillan essences and toasty oak held together with silky smooth tannins. The finish is long and complex – completing a very classy wine.

Critic Scores

Offering power and opulence with structure and grace, the inviting bouquet shows black and purple fruit intensity, liquorice, cake spice, rich floral, and vanillin oak characters. The palate is equally gratifying with outstanding concentration and plush texture, combined with beautifully melded tannins, making it richly flavoursome and hugely appealing.

Deep purple with a vibrant core.

The nose shows blackberry, plum and dark cherry with notes of cocoa, spice and subtle oak.

Full-bodied and plush, the palate delivers ripe black fruit with a soft, rounded texture. Fine tannins and natural acidity provide balance, while hints of mocha and spice carry through a smooth, harmonious finish.

A generous and polished McLaren Vale Shiraz with depth and drinkability.

Vino Masters Score: 96/100
★★★★★ Smooth, plush, opulent, and super expressive.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
