Tasting Notes

The 2025 Fairbank Rosé upholds our tradition of creating highly enjoyable rosé wines from our own harvest. Staying true to previous releases, this wine boasts a lively hue of salmon rose. A blend of syrah, cabernet sauvignon, sangiovese with a dash of viognier - delivers lifted spring blossom, musk, cranberry, wild strawberry and cherry with biscuit notes with gentle creaminess and finishes with even, deep flavours balanced by spiciness and a lively acid drive.

Critic Scores

A multiple Halliday award winner, and each year it just gets it so right – from the brilliant tea rose and salmon hues, the oh-so pretty spring floral aromas, musk and summer berries that transform into something deeper and more concentrated on the palate. It is very much a layered, complex young rosé, with additional savoury wild herbals and cranberry, and creamy mealy notes, yet it remains a wine filled with crunchy, bright acidity and life. With or without food, it's a star.

Vineyard Cultivation

Sutton Grange Winery sits in the granite country between Bendigo and the Macedon Ranges in central Victoria, farming organically grown estate vineyards on decomposed granite soils. The Fairbank range is the estate's approachable, earlier-drinking tier, and its rose is a multiple James Halliday Wine Companion Rose of the Year. Made in a Provencal idiom, it draws on estate fruit grown to retain freshness and delicate colour. The cool, elevated site and 2025 growing season preserved the bright acidity and pretty floral character that mark the wine, with early picking to hold the pale hue and crisp line.

Vinification

Fruit destined for the rose is picked early and pressed gently to give the pale tea-rose to salmon colour and the delicate, Provencal-style aromatics of spring florals, musk and summer berries. Cool fermentation preserves the crunchy, bright acidity, while a period on fine lees builds the creamy, mealy texture and layered, savoury depth noted by reviewers. The wine is made dry and finished fresh. Alcohol is around 12.5%.
