Tasting Notes

An inviting perfumed nose of black forest cake, red fruits, florals, and creaming soda. Vibrant red cherry, raspberry compote and chinotto fill the luscious palate. This is followed by underlying baking spice to give a lovely savory backbone. Well-integrated powdery tannins give structure and length.

Aged 10 months ::5 months :: 15% new French oak barriques and puncheons

Handpicked fruit was hand sorted and fermented in various vessels across concrete, oak and stainless steel. Batches were cold soaked for 4 days at 8°C before the onset of wild fermentation. Light fermentation management with pump overs and some plunging over the 14-18 days on skins before pressed off to tank and racked to barrel. Natural malolactic fermentation was completed in place before these specific batches were racked to tank for blending with gentle filtration before bottling.

VINTAGE: After a wet spring, the 2024 season gave ample sunlight and ideal ripening conditions across all varieties. Phenological ripeness was uniform and flavours although delayed, were abundant in great concentrations.

Vineyard Cultivation

Ten Minutes by Tractor takes its name from the roughly ten-minute tractor drive between the founding McCutcheon, Wallis and Judd vineyards on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, consolidated under proprietor Martin Spedding from 2004. The 10X is the estate's approachable regional Pinot, drawing on cool-climate sites across the Peninsula's elevated hinterland, where maritime influence, well-drained clay-loam and ferrous red soils give perfumed, medium-bodied fruit. Farming across the estate blocks is low-intervention in outlook. Mornington's cool 2025 season produced fragrant, fine-boned Pinot Noir, with red-cherry lift and a savoury spice backbone, gathered from parcels across the region for this generous, early-drinking style.

Vinification

Handpicked fruit was hand-sorted and fermented in a mix of concrete, oak and stainless-steel vessels. Batches were cold-soaked around four days at 8C before wild fermentation, with light management through pump-overs and some plunging over roughly 14 to 18 days on skins. After pressing off the wine settled to barrel for a natural malolactic fermentation and was matured about ten months, with a modest portion (around 15%) new French oak in barriques and puncheons, before blending, gentle filtration and bottling. The gentle handling gives vibrant red cherry, raspberry compote and baking spice with fine, powdery tannins.
