The Cutting The Outlier Grenache 2025
The Cutting The Outlier Grenache 2025
Tasting Notes
This Barossa Grenache opens with generous aromas of ripe blackberry and mulberry, layered with wild strawberry, subtle graphite and gentle spice. The palate is supple and inviting, with soft, silky tannins and vibrant natural freshness that carry the fruit with ease and make the wine immediately appealing and moreish.
The fruit is sourced from the historic Dahlitz vineyard in Hallett’s Valley, located due south of Tanunda. Planted in the 1940s, these survivor Grenache vines are still hand spur pruned and represent more than eight decades of continuous viticulture. The vineyard sits on distinctive black cracking clay soils with traces of alluvial material from the nearby North Para River, contributing depth and a savoury undertone to the fruit.
Prevailing south easterly winds funnel down the river valley, naturally cooling the site during the ripening period. This moderating influence helps preserve acidity and freshness while allowing the fruit to reach full flavour maturity, a key factor in the wine’s balance and poise.
The 2025 vintage was one of the earliest on record in the Barossa. A dry winter and ongoing drought conditions, combined with warmer August temperatures, led to earlier budburst and an accelerated growing season. These conditions produced fruit with excellent concentration while retaining the brightness and balance that define a modern Barossa style.
Hand picked on February 23rd, the fruit was naturally fermented with native yeasts, with twenty percent whole bunches included to build aromatic lift and structure. After fermentation, the wine spent fourteen days on skins to develop texture and complexity before gentle basket pressing. It was matured for six months in seasoned five hundred litre French oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve purity, freshness and energy.
The result is a refined yet expressive Grenache that combines depth of fruit with elegance, supple texture and a long, vibrant finish.
