Tasting Notes

Now in its second release, this standout from Michael Corbett’s Vanguardist range shows just how refined and expressive rosé can be.

Sourced mainly from old Grenache and Syrah vines in Blewitt Springs, the fruit was foot-crushed and cold settled overnight, then fermented in stainless steel, concrete, and ceramic egg - each vessel adding its own layer of texture and detail.

The result is dry, savoury, and finely structured, with notes of grapefruit, pomegranate, herbs, and spice. Bright and drinkable now, yet built to evolve.

More than just a summer wine, this is a rosé with depth, energy, and serious charm.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

Vanguardist is the McLaren Vale label of winemaker Michael Corbett. This rose is a single-site wine of Grenache and Syrah from the Rende vineyard in Blewitt Springs, a cool, elevated pocket sitting above 200 metres. The topsoil is pure sand over pockets of clay and red ironstone, and the rejuvenated vineyard is farmed to encourage the return of plant and animal species and a living ecosystem true to the site. The 2025 fruit was picked to preserve freshness and delicacy for a serious, gastronomic style of rose rather than a simple quaffer.

Vinification

Grenache and Syrah were handled for a pale, savoury rose: prettiness and purity captured from time in stainless steel tank, with roundness and mouthfeel built through fermentation and ageing in concrete sphere, lees contact and full (100%) malolactic fermentation. The result shows blood orange, fennel, pink grapefruit and redcurrant with mineral acidity balanced by a touch of fine tannin, in a bone-dry, textural style.

About this Wine

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
