Founded in 1967, Vasse Felix was Margaret River’s first commercial vineyard and remains one of Western Australia’s most celebrated estates. Heytesbury showcases the region’s exceptional Cabernet with Petit Verdot and Malbec adding depth, colour and complexity.

Powerful yet polished, it layers cassis, blackberry, dark chocolate, violet and subtle spice with fine tannins and excellent length—an impressive choice for collectors, premium steak or slow-cooked beef.

Tasting Notes

Vasse Felix Heytesbury Cabernet Petit Verdot Malbec 2009 is a powerful yet polished Margaret River red from one of Western Australia’s most celebrated wine estates. Founded in 1967, Vasse Felix was Margaret River’s first commercial vineyard, and the Heytesbury range continues to showcase the region’s outstanding potential for premium Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cabernet Sauvignon leads this distinguished blend, with Petit Verdot and Malbec contributing depth, colour and complexity. Rich layers of cassis, blackberry, dark chocolate, violet and subtle spice unfold across the palate, supported by fine, composed tannins and impressive length. The 2009 vintage delivers an excellent balance of power, structure and refinement.

A superb mature Margaret River wine for collectors and lovers of fine Australian red wine, it pairs beautifully with premium steak, slow-cooked beef and other richly flavoured dishes. Sourced from a premium private cellar.

Critic Scores

The 2008 Heytesbury (Cabernet Sauvignon with 13% Petit Verdot and 12% Malbec) is now 17 years from harvest, and the wine leads with graphite and coal dust, pencil shavings, nori, kelp and blue fruits. This is all muscle and guts, with a sweet core of fruit wrapped in sinewy tannin. The wine today is incredibly fresh and tightly coiled, a credit to its making and expression of the season. It's nice to see it side by side with the 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is also looking of its time and place, and gorgeous for it. This 2008 Heytesbury has decades to go; the black cherry acidity through the finish reinforces the fresh fruit characters on the palate. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
